Troubleshooting

Why isn’t Grogo working on my device?

Ensure the device is set up for screen monitoring with the appropriate permissions enabled.

What if my child’s device isn’t syncing?

Check that both devices are logged into the same Grogo account. You may need to re-enter the unique setup code.

How do I pause Grogo temporarily?

Use the parent dashboard to pause breaks for special occasions or adjust settings.

Grogo stopped working or I was notified it's been over 1 day since my child took a Grogo Break.

That could mean they just haven't been using their monitored apps. But if something doesn't seem right, check Grogo on any devices you've been monitoring to make sure permissions are still turned on. Here's what to do:

  1. Log in to Grogo on your child’s device. If you can’t find Grogo, it may have been uninstalled - reinstall it from the app store and set up screen time monitoring.

  2. If you gave you child access to your PIN, they may have paused Grogo. Reset your PIN to regain control of the app.

  3. Go to your Grogo profile page to see if there are any messages about screen monitoring issues. If you see a message that Grogo is paused, choose "Resume Grogo." If there is a message about screen monitoring permissions requiring setup, follow the instructions there. This is also something you can access from your settings under "Manage Screen Monitoring."

  4. Check any other devices you've been monitoring, and follow the instructions there if needed.

General Information

General Information

What is Grogo?

Grogo is a parental control app that combines educational screen breaks with educational questions. Children must answer questions correctly to regain access to their apps, promoting learning and building self-esteem.

Who is Grogo designed for?

Grogo is ideal for families looking to balance screen time with educational growth.

How does Grogo work?

Grogo interrupts selected apps after a preset time. Children answer age-appropriate educational questions to resume app usage. Correct answers grant faster access, and the app adapts to their learning progress.

What devices does Grogo support?

Grogo is available for iOS and Android devices and works across both platforms.

What permissions does Grogo need?

Grogo requires:

  • Access to run in the background.

  • Display over apps.

  • Usage data to monitor screen time.

  • Screen time access for parental controls.

Grogo will prompt you during set-up to make these selections.

How do I add multiple children?

Use the parent dashboard to add additional child profiles. Each profile can have customized settings for grade level and subjects.

How does the timer work?

The timer only counts down when your child is actively using an app that Grogo is monitoring. For example, if you set a 30-minute interval and your child stops using monitored apps for 10 minutes, the timer pauses and resumes when they return to using those apps. This ensures screen time is accurately managed based on actual usage.

Your child will also receive a heads-up notification 5 minutes before the next Grogo break, giving them an option to start the break early. To ensure this feature works, make sure notifications are enabled for Grogo on your child’s device.

What happens during a Grogo Break?

Your child needs to answer a series of educational questions to regain access to the apps you selected for interruption. The longer the break interval, the more questions they have to answer correctly or in total. Grogo is designed to deliver 1-2 minute breaks, ideal for the benefits of microlearning.

Can my child bypass Grogo’s controls?

Grogo uses robust parental control mechanisms to minimize the chances of being bypassed. Ensure all required permissions are correctly set to maintain control.

If your child has gone more than one day without a Grogo break, you will receive an email notification, and their profile icon on the parent dashboard will display a warning. This may indicate that they have found a way to bypass Grogo’s controls. Make sure not to share your parent PIN with your child.

Learning and Growing

Learning and Growing

How does Grogo adjust the difficulty of questions?

Grogo adjusts question difficulty based on your child’s performance:

  • Correct answers in a subject increase the difficulty to provide a greater challenge.

  • Incorrect answers lower the difficulty to ensure accessibility and support continued learning.

What happens if my child gets stuck or answers incorrectly?

Grogo provides helpful explanations for incorrect answers and may repeat the question or offer new ones. Grogo also adjusts the difficulty based on how well your child is doing in each subject. And there are limits to the total number of questions a child has to answer in each break – we want Grogo to be challenging, but not frustrating, building your child’s self-esteem.

Can my child earn progress even with incorrect answers?

Yes, every answer—correct or incorrect—contributes progress toward unlocking apps, though correct answers provide more progress.

What happens if my child runs out of new questions?

With over 30,000 questions in our database, this is not likely to happen anytime soon, although they may occasionally see a question they’ve been asked before. If you've had them focused on just one or two subjects, consider adding others for more variety.

How is progress tracked during Grogo breaks?

A Grogo break is complete when:

  • The child answers the required number of questions correctly, or

  • The maximum number of questions for that session is reached.

Breaks completed, questions answered, and streaks are visible on both the child and parent dashboards.

Can Grogo differentiate between "snacking" and a break?

Yes, Grogo tracks "snacking" separately. Snacking refers to answering questions outside of a Grogo break. These do not count toward unlocking apps or resetting the timer but are tracked as engagement streaks to encourage ongoing learning.

How is my child’s progress measured?

Grogo monitors the number of questions answered, subjects covered, and overall accuracy. This data is also accessible on the parent dashboard along with how well they are doing in each subject you’ve selected.

Can I adjust the subjects I want my child to answer?

Yes, you can select specific subjects during setup and at any time by returning to your account.
